As part of the joint celebration of Accountancy Week by Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, and Iligan, the search for the Most Outstanding Accountancy Student was conducted last July 16 and 18, 2016 at Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City. The competition was attended by 40 top accounting students from 8 different universities and colleges from all over Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City. Central Mindanao was proudly represented by fifth year accountancy students, to wit: Julie Ann N. Caburatan, Feberlyn G. Haohao, Gerald S. Jabillo, Redson R. Marte and Mary Dorothy T. Talidro. They were accompanied by their coach, Ms. Rose Mae S. Langot. The events were divided into three namely: credential screening, extemporaneous speaking and a quiz bowl.

On July 16, 2016, the participants attended a seminar at PCC Auditorium which aims to enhance leadership skills as well as to acquaint every participant. Then the contest proper started wherein participants were judged based on their essay, academic achievements and other extra-curricular credentials. The extemporaneous speaking and quiz bowl were held on July 18, 2016, at LimKetkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro City. In the extemporaneous speaking, each contestant was called to pick a number that will represent a judge that will tell them the topic to talk about for 5 minutes. Topics varies widely from personal question such as “Will you consider an Accountancy student as a boyfriend/girlfriend material?” to national and international issues such as “What is the greatest problem the world is facing right now?”

After that, in the quiz bowl, questions were taken from various accounting subjects. Current updates in the accounting standards were also covered. MSU-IIT was proclaimed as the First placer for the quiz bowl competition; CMU on second place and the Third place was secured by both MSU-IIT and Cagayan de Oro College.
During the Culminating Program of the Accountancy Celebration held at Pilgrim Christian College, Mary Dorothy Talidro was proclaimed as the 7th Placer and Julie Ann N. Caburatan as the 2016 Most Outstanding Accountancy Student as well as Best Speaker for the Impromptu Speaking Competition.
